Video review is one of the most important and affective learning tools we have as coaches and players. But unfortunately, I still see it so under used and underestimated.
Players need to be able to watch their games back and identify where their strengths and weaknesses are. Learn more about the game, their decision making and awareness within the game. More importantly it helps give the athlete the tools to decide on where they need to put focus when on ice to drive their growth.
Working with the players to review their shifts, discuss parts of the game, mistakes or areas of correction we can help the player develop their game understanding and hockey IQ. This helps the player have a clearer understanding which in turn helps stronger and faster decision making on ice. We see it as creating a road map for the player to give them specific development areas to focus on, so they have a plan and clear progression steps. We can then guide them through this and review at follow up meetings.
